Have you ever heard this saying, “Actions speak louder than words”? Has this statement ever been directed at you? How did you receive it? Do your actions speak louder than your words now?
God calls all of us to be people of action. He does not desire that we only say that we believe on Him and that we love Him, but He desires that our confession is expressed outwardly through our actions. The Lord rejects the words of those who only honor Him with their lips. (Matthew 15:8)
According to James, it is evident that to be alive you must have a spirit inside your body. “For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.” James 2:26 ESV
God is Spirit and we connect with Him through praise and worship that flows directly from our spirit (John 4:24) to His. John also communicates to us that our faith apart from works is not actually real faith, therefore, we can not have one without the other.
In essence, believers who are filled with the Spirit of God will respond to their confession of faith with visible action. In the case of praise and worship, lifting our hands is a visible expression of our personal commitment to the Lord and in doing so we honor Him not only with our words but with our actions as well.
There are many scriptures that speak of all the reasons to lift up our hands to the Lord. Most of these scriptures can be found in the book of Psalms, a book that contains many spiritual songs written unto the Lord. If you are still struggling with lifting your hands in praise and worship, in outwardly expressing your confession of faith, I encourage you to take the time now to read and meditate on one of these scriptures: Psalm 141:2, Psalm 141:2, Psalm 28:2, Psalm 119:48.
My prayer is that in doing so, the Holy Spirit will give you the courage and the freedom to express your faith with hands lifted high!
